What's New? An update on life

By special request, the following is an update of what's new (or ongoing) in my life. I'm still amazed out how fast our little one is growing up. He's now twenty-eight months old, and it seems like he's doing or saying something new every day. Here are some of the highlights:

Right now he's really into books and playing with cars, trucks, and some wooden people that go along with an airplane, school bus, and tractor. He also likes playing outside, riding his tricycle and car along with playing on his sand table and watering plants.

I've been staying home twice a week with him and substitute teaching and coaching track the other three days.

Here are some highlights from January and February from him and the family in picture format:

January
Visit to Laura's parents' condo in Florida.
We also ran the Pensacola Beach 1/2 marathon.
Ice Palace in St. Paul
The little one doing his chores

February
Hanging out with Brit., Jared, and their three kids

March and April will be coming soon. Thanks for reading.

Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon: No Goal Time

Usually I set a few goals for a marathon. Not this time. The 2018 Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon will be the first marathon where I really have no goals and no expectations.I've been dealing with an ankle injury for over a year and a foot injury for around seventh months. The injuries really weren't slowing me down too much, but it seemed like it was only a matter of time before they wood.

So, I finally began taking multiple days in a row off of running and at a couple of points over a week off. The foot injury seems to be healed (fingers crossed) and the ankle injury is much better. Unfortunately, with all the time off and a total lack of quality workouts, I'm not in any kind of shape to run a fast marathon.

Since there's no way I'm going to run a fast time, I'm just planning on enjoying myself. I've done the Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon twice before, and there is some nice scenery along the way. I'll spend some time in my head, enjoy the scenery and look forward to the food at the finish.

I'd like to be able to kick the ankle injury once and for all, so after this race I'm planning on focusing on rehabilitation with the hope that I can salvage a fall racing season.

Thanks for reading.

A Wonderful Spring and Upcoming Posts

So far, besides the weather, spring has been great. Several years in mid-March to the end of April, my bipolar symptoms have started acting up. I’m not out of the clear yet. Some years the symptoms don’t come until late May to early June, but this year I’m more confident in my current medications, support from friends, family, and my medical team along with my coping skills.

As I’ve been slacking off on posting the last couple months, I wanted to give a preview of what I’ve been working on. Here are some posts that are coming soon:

  • Lots of book posts
  • A couple mental health posts
  • A couple life update posts
  • A post or two on my running status and upcoming marathon

Thanks for reading!
